OUR APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY
BMI’s sustainability approach is centred around our contribution to sustainable waste management and the circular economy through our recycling and resource recovery activities, while ensuring operations do not negatively impact the environment or the health and safety of our staff, contractors, site visitors and the local community.
Sustainable Waste Management
BMI is dedicated to sustainable waste management and is always exploring new opportunities to invest in and promote the circular economy.
We are committed to improving its recycling capabilities, diverting waste from its landfill sites, and increasing the volume of recycled materials that can be reused in the market.
GREENstar compliant
BMI’s Stapylton and Acacia Ridge sites have been recognised as Greenstar compliant waste processing facilities under Green Building Council Australia (GBCA) Construction & Demolition waste reporting criteria. BMI achieves recycling rates of 90% that demonstrate support for our industry partners working to achieve sustainable infrastructure development.
Investing in clean energy
Investment in clean energy strategies have been undertaken to reduce our energy usage and emissions footprint, including rooftop solar, capturing landfill gas for green energy consumption as well as water harvesting capabilities.
BMI is actively monitoring longer-term waste to energy opportunities as the sector develops in Australia.
