It has been a significant journey commencing in 2017 with the submission of the development approval application to some 6 years later receiving the news from Judge Williamson that the BMI application for both landfill and recycling facility had met all Ipswich City Council Planning Scheme requirements and is approved. The landfill has a design capacity of 9 million cubic metres and is approved with a significant recycling facility which will divert some 200,000 tonnes per annum from Landfill.
Final conditions are still to be negotiated with Ipswich City Council, however we are gearing up in earnest to undertake an initial two years of construction to have the site ready to accept waste.
We are currently sourcing suitable equipment to aid in this task and will soon be adding to our growing BMI team with the site expected to employ some 60 people when fully operational. Work on construction is expected to commence in September 2023, with the commencement of bulk earthworks and the partial draining of the large void that exists at the site. We look forward to providing many updates as this site develops via the link on our New Chum locations page on our website.
